Sometimes the best way forward is to keep things simple. The design for this project followed a similar layout of the current garden due to the positioning of the sun and the entertaining area and main paving area (which included a pond) was redesigned. These areas had new large porcelain slabs laid, border additions and changes to the cladding and coping around the pond. The front driveway also had a make-over to include picket fencing, gravel driveway and new planting borders.

Main features:

• Porcelain
• Cladding and coping
• Fencing
• Planting
• Turf
• Hot-tub
• Stabilising grids
• Lighting

The garden originally had curved borders so we introduced straight borders with crisp, clean lines that mirrored the layout of the property. These lines were carried on around the entertaining area that encompassed the louvered pergola from White Stores and a new hot-tub.

There was already hard standing on the left-hand side of the property which lay in the path of the evening sun; perfect for the pergola, hot-tub and cooking areas to be situated. The clients didn’t like their existing Indian Sandstone paving due to the different size slabs and large joins so we opted to lay a stunning 800mm x 800mm slab from London Stone. The resulting effect not only reduced the number of joins, it also made the areas look bigger.

To separate the side access to the main garden we installed decorative metal fencing from Charles and Ivy which we replicated on the walls next to the water feature.

The water feature also had a re-vamp with new cladding and copings (also from London Stone) which matched the porcelain planks under the pergola and the pathway.

The beautiful planting scheme included colourful perennials such as Gaura, Verbena, Salvia, Agapanthus and evergreen Ilex crenata balls which will give all year-round interest.

Client comments:

From our first planning meeting to the last completion meeting, Alex and Ben and their fabulous team have been a pleasure to work with. The garden looks amazing and is exactly as the design was drawn. The quality of their work and the speed that they work is incredible. We love it and would highly recommend The Essex Garden Co without any hesitation.
