Garden design created for Tranquil Escape_garden build by Essex Garden Co

Chelmsford, Essex, £66k

We loved doing this garden installation! The clients wanted to transform a derelict section of their garden into an outdoor living space for adults as they already had a large section of garden that was being used by the children.

Main features:

  • Porcelain paving
  • Gravel garden
  • Irrigation
  • Planting
  • Plank paving
  • Pergola
  • Water rill
  • Lighting
  • Composite decking

For the purposes of low maintenance, we decided to design this garden with no turf and instead used a mixture of porcelain (@LowerBarnFarm), Millboard composite decking (PGR) and gravel. Planting within stone is a design technique that we love to use and this garden is going to look fabulous during the summer months.

The water rill was a last-minute addition, as our clients requested having the sound of running water around the seating areas. As a result, we designed the rill to run alongside the decking and lower paving area with two fountains.

Because there was access from the driveway into the new courtyard garden, we added timber uprights and a composite gate. Decorative screens were installed and replicated on one of the walls inside the garden.

The lighting on this project is beautiful. Uplighters illuminate the main feature trees and strip lighting has been placed under the decking, highlighting the rill. Whilst soffit lights brighten the composite screens on the walls and up/down lights on the timber upright posts.
